Sweet wood ~ that’s a long-time nickname for Licorice Root, a plant prized for the sweetness stored in its underground roots. Native to parts of southern Europe and western Asia, it has also been grown more widely for centuries, and Licorice appears in historical records from ancient Egypt and Assyria. Above ground, the plant carries soft green leaflets and small pea-like blossoms that hint at its place in the legume family.

Powerfully sweet, the infusion is naturally rich and rounded, with a faint anise-like edge that comes forward as it steeps. The liquor tends to be amber to brown, and the sweetness lingers on the palate, leaving a smooth, slightly coating finish.

Recommended Use: About Licorice - This tea brews to a naturally sweet, full-bodied cup with a smooth, lingering finish. Certified organic, it offers a rich, sweet flavor enjoyed by gourmets, cooks and herbal enthusiasts.

Recommended Dose: Use spring or filtered water. Good water is an essential part of brewing a great cup of tea. Relax. Some of the most enjoyable aspects of tea are the calmness and ritual that surround it. Take some time for tea!

  • Quick Brew Directions: Pour freshly boiled water over tea bags in your chosen mug, cover, and steep 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Full Strength (decoction) Directions: When dried, Licorice root is tough ~ it needs to be gently simmered for maximum strength. Use a stainless pot and stainless or wooden utensils. Use one tea bag per cup of water, cover and bring to a gentle boil briefly, then turn down the heat and simmer for 10–20 minutes. Extra tea can be stored in a sealed glass jar for a day or two in the refrigerator.

Ingredients: Organic Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra).
